Jennifer "Strombe" Stromberg
Bio:
Jennifer Stromberg was born
on February 27, 1984 in the midst of a
blizzard in Harvey, Illinois and she is still bitter that she missed
being born on the 29th by 35 hours. She kinda figures she must have
been hungry. Yes, Jennifer was born a big eater. She was certainly no
athlete. She was forced to attend swim lessons against her will and had
to promote herself past the breaststroke level because she still can't
do that stupid kick right. It's probably because her left foot is
lacking in proprioception (that's right, Jennifer is a pre-med and
sometimes likes to use the big words). Eventually, at the age of 12,
she was convinced to join the swim team, her first athletic endeavor!
(Actually she was in running club in 4th grade, but for her it might as
well have been walking club…she is still very very slow)
One day Jennifer Stromberg
was entered in a swim meet, but her
name didn't fit on the scoreboard. This is how Jennifer Stromberg
became known as "Strombe." Strombe continued to swim on her high school
team, and when they decided to start a water polo team her freshman
year she was more than happy to be one of the 14 members who had NO
idea what they were doing. (Once the ref actually stopped the game to
tell them how to set up an offense…yikes!) They did manage to win one
game that year though! (forfeits COUNT!) By senior year, the T-Bolts
were actually a force to be reckoned with and Strombe had become a
sports fanatic, but she decided though she would always be a South Side
Sox fan at heart, she would have to head a bit further north to become
a Northwestern Wildcat .
Many
things changed with the
move to the North Side. First, Strombe found she would have change from
#11 to #14. She also found herself frequently defending her South Side
roots and her baseball team from some of her new North Side
acquaintances. Three years passed this way, but now Strombe is a senior
and not only have the White Sox become World Series Champions, quieting
all those that had once questioned her South Side pride, but she has
also returned to her beloved #11. Meanwhile she finally
finished her
bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering while watching da
Bears
become NFC North Champions. With so many things going so well for
Strombe, one can't help but wonder what greatness she has yet to see in
her last season playing water polo in what has thus far been the best
sports year of her life. Though it may be too soon to say exactly
what
lies ahead, she does look forward to ending her career on the highest
note possible: playing in the National Collegiate Club Water
Polo
Championships at Northwestern University while watching the next
self-proclaimed "Strombie" begin her career back at Andrew high school!
According to "Strombe", the original, "it doesn't get much better
than this!!" :)
