After a long and arduous journey, we've put together our first recording, "Party Like It's 1899". During three marathon sessions, the stalwart band members recorded a stunning thirteen tracks, mere days before finals. Here are some MP3s for your enjoyment, each with a small explanation:
Russian Sher is a fun, short piece where Darren, our "whoopee" man, had his chance to shine.
Ydid Nefesh is an old favorite, with a special cameo appearance of our oft-missing hammered dulcimerist, Yehuda.
Miserlou may be recognized by lovers of Pulp Fiction, but its' illustrious history goes back much farther.
Lastly, a special treat. After we had finished recording, only drums, piano, saxophone, and a trumpet remained. We decided to play another random song just for the heck of it. "Something in D," someone suggested. Heh. (In case you aren't a klezmer player and you'd missed it, that was a small bit of irony.) So, we played a piece that had some small resemblence to Zemer Atik - for the first stanza, at least. Kudos to Raysh and Matvey for a nice improvisational job.
