PURPOSE AND HISTORY The Northwestern University Ski and Snowboard Club's mission is to provide
fun, social, and adventurous vacations to Northwestern students. The club
provides quality trips for large groups of Northwestern students at a lower
price than available to the individual. The club runs a trip over winter
break and a trip over spring break. We've traveled to some of the top ski
resorts in the country including Aspen, Breckenridge, Telluride, Jackson
Hole, Park City, Big Sky, and Steamboat.
PAST TRIPS
For our spring trip, we went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Everyone tried to keep cool and sunburn free in the prime spring conditions. It was warm and sunny every day, but as always they still had plenty of snow. The town made for fun nights out with it's "Cowboy" atmosphere. Our winter trip in 2003 was the biggest ever, and once again, by far the largest ski trip in the country with 740 students. We went to Steamboat, Colorado, the site of some of our best trips. Once again, it did not disappoint. We had two big storms while we were there, and the parties and nightlife were fantastic. The 2002 spring trip took us to Breckenridge, Colorado. We enjoyed lift tickets good for Breck, Vail, Keystone, and A-Basin. The condos were spacious and offered over six outdoor hot tubs to choose from. Luckily, we caught some fresh snow on a few of the days we were at Breckenridge which provided excellent skiing and boarding. The town itself had some great bars to check out and we couldn't have asked for a better trip. Over 600 students went to Big Sky, Montana for the 2002 Winter Break Ski Trip. While the conditions left much to be desired, everyone had fun on some of the nicely groomed runs and especially at some of the larger bars at the resort. The huge condos were an added bonus that the club really enjoyed. For the Spring 2002 trip, we took 42 people to Crested Butte, Colorado. As the motto says, this is the last great ski town in Colorado. We enjoyed our large condos and had some refreshments at the cozy bars in town. Everyone had a good time sampling some of Crested Butte's challenging peaks. The Northwestern Ski Trip is once again the LARGEST collegiate ski trip in the nation with 622 NU students! This past year we headed to Park City, Utah. Everyone had a great time and the snow was awesome. The sight of the 2002 Winter Olympics provided some memorable days in the snow. We had a great time, pub crawling at all of Park City's bars. We set yet another record for collegiate ski trips when we went to Winter
Park, Colorado during Winter Break 2000. 700 Northwestern students
went to Winter Park to enjoy the great skiing and festivities. The
ski conditions were simply amazing with Winter Park receiving over 18"
of snow throughout the week while we were there. The skiing couldn't
be beat and either could the night-life with a planned NU event occuring
every evening including sledding and parties at local bars. Tippler
Contingent even played on Wednesday evening in front of hundreds of NU
students at a bar called The Slope. It was a great release from finals
and a great start to winter break.
Our Spring Break trip of 2000 was to Big Sky, Montana. It was the club's
first trip to anywhere in Montana. We couldn't have asked for a better
location, though. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and just like the
winter trip before it we had snow the first night. The entire mountain
was open and ready for us to challenge it. That's just what we did, although
none in our group attempted the intense front fact of the lone peak. Maybe
next year. The 1999 Winter Trip to Steamboat, Colorado was our largest trip
yet and also set the record for the largest single school ski trip in the
nation with nearly 600 students! WOW! Not only was this trip the largest,
but you couldn't have asked for better conditions. On Monday night we got
10 inches of new snow which made for some intense powder skiing for all
of the day. Over the rest of the week they continued to open more of the
mountain. Then on Thursday night fortune smiled on us again and we received
6 more inches of snow! How perfect! The large ski town provided us with
many options of restaurants and bars to visit. All in all, the trip was
simply amazing and nobody has said anything but that about it.
The 1999 Spring Trip was to Crested Butte, Colorado. This was
the club's second time to Crested Butte. The snow left a little to be desired,
but it's always hard to know how the season will be. It was fun to have
warm weather for many of the days allowing for lots of socializing and
BBQ-ing. The local crowd was very nice and seemed to enjoy having us around.
The mountain was really cool to see and everything that was open was awesome!
Tons of runs were challenging and offered a lot to boarders too. We had
a good time there, but hope for better conditions next time.
For our 1998 winter trip we went to Breckenridge, Colorado. The best part about this trip was that the lift pass was a 4 mountain pass including Breck, Keystone, A Basin, and Vail. Unfortunately, A Basin was closed, but the other 2 were up and running! It was really great to be able to go to any one of the three parks at any point during the week. The town of Breck had lots to offer and it was really cool for all of those "of age" to check out the local pubs and bars. We are looking forward to our next trip out there. |
