Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much does the trip cost? What does that cover?

A: This year the winter trip will cost $345. That pays for lift tickets, and lodging.

Q: When is the trip?

A: December 9th - 15th (motorcoach will be leaving on the 8th and getting back on 16th)

Q: How do I sign-up?

A: You need to sign up at the Box office, but spots are limited. You just need to stop by the Norris Box Office and pay for the trip in full.  Even if you are paying by cash or check, make sure to bring your credit card, or your parents credit card number in case of damage to your individual condos.  Your credit card will not be charged unless there is a significant amount of damage.

Q: Where are we staying? What is the place like?

A: The details regarding the lodgings will be posted soon, but expect the same high quality establishments as always.

Q: When do we need to do rooming picks?

A: We will have a housing meeting once the trip is fully sold out (most likely before thanksgiving break) and we will collect housing rooming picks then.

Q: How can I get there?

A: You can drive yourself, fly from Chicago to Bozeman airport, or choose the cheap motorcoach option that has been made available ($150) rountrip.

Q: Do I have to know how to ski or snowboard to go on the trip?

A: No. The skiing and snowboarding is only half of the total fun of the trip. Every trip there are skiers and snowboarders who go for their first time ever. Skiing and snowboarding lessons are offered throughout the week at Steamboat and is a great foundation for first time skiers and boarders to learn the basics.

Q: How much money should I bring?

A: That all depends on how you plan on spending your week. We would suggest taking no less than $100 for the week. If you plan on renting skis or a snowboard then you should plan on having some extra money for that.

Q: What about rentals, how much are they, how good are they?

A: Rentals vary from place to place in price. We can always get very good quality rentals, usually they are brand new or in the previous year's style. Plan on having about $65 for skis, slightly more for snowboards to cover the entire week.

Q: What should I bring with to wear?

A: Have a water/wind resistant coat or jacket. Thick gloves preferably with leather palms. You will probably want to have something over your eyes (sunglasses, goggles, etc.). It is also important to have plenty of comfortable socks, you will go through these very quickly. You'll also want some kind of snow pants. Layers are the best way to go to stay warm on the slopes.

Q: What about food?

A: There will be grocery and convenience stores all over Breckenridge as well as shuttles to take you to these stores from the hotel.

Q: Can I pay by credit card?

A: Yes. We are offering the option to pay by credit card this year if you cannot pay by cash or check.

Q: Can my non-NU friends come?

A: Of course they can, but they will need to clearly designate their e-mail addresses to the Box Office.

Q: I'm taking the bus. What is the approximate itinerary for the trip?

A: Buses will leave on Friday, December 8th in the afternoon. We will arrive in Big Sky on December 9th in the late afternoon.  We leave Breckenridge in the morning of December 15th, and return back to Evanston on December 16th in the late morning or afternoon depending on weather.

Q: What are the motorcoaches (aka. buses) like? Will we die of boredom?

A: No! These motorcoaches are configured for cross country travel. They have comfy seat with an overhead storage compartment for your carry-on. They are also equipped with a couple of TVs and a DVD player. Please bring lots of movies to pass the time.

Q: I am taking the bus, how much luggage may I take on the trip?

A: Due to space limitations on the buses, each person is allowed to bring one large suitcase, your ski equipment, and a small carry-on.
