Dear Incoming Freshman or New Student,

Welcome to Northwestern!  Hopefully you’re enjoying the last days of summer before arriving on campus this fall.  Northwestern offers exceptional experiences… and one of them is Sigma Phi Epsilon’s Excellence through Balance Scholarship (EBS).

SigEp awards more than $3,000 in total through this scholarship to three men and three women from the freshman class who exemplify one of the signature tenets of SigEp: balance.  The Excellence through Balance Scholarship awards students who embody strong character , excellence in academics, athletics, and leadership. The enclosed application asks you to focus on these four points and tell us about yourself in a creative way.  We encourage you to complete the application electronically and email it to

s-basak15@northwestern.edu.  However, if you would rather print the application, please mail it to the above address.  The deadline to apply is October 5, 2007.

All applicants will be contacted once we decide on semi-finalists.  Semi-finalists will then be invited to participate in a one-on-one interview.  From these semi-finalists, finalists will be selected and interviewed one more time.  There will be an award presentation and dinner for the finalists at the end of the competition. This really is an amazing experience and we hope you participate!

Participation in the Excellence through Balance Scholarship is open to both men and women, and does not bind male participants to membership in the fraternity.

Most importantly, good luck this fall at NU!  For more information about the scholarship or SigEp, please feel free to call or email us.  Thank you for your interest in the Excellence through Balance Scholarship.  We look forward to receiving your application and meeting you.

Sincerely,

SigEp EBS Co-Chairs
