In a letter sent to the editors of the Daily Northwestern and North by Northwestern today, newly elected ASG Student Life Vice President Alex Van Atta and newly elected ASG Academic Vice President Neil Mehta jointly endorsed Shao & Stewart for ASG.

“Victor and Brad share our vision of where ASG needs to go and how to approach current issues, which will allow us to work effectively and start solving problems as early as day one,” Van Atta and Mehta wrote in the letter.

After being elected on Wednesday, the pair decided that it was “vital” that they express their opinions regarding who they wanted to see lead the ASG Executive Board.

“We believe that [Victor and Brad's] vision for Northwestern aligns with our platforms for Student Life and Academics. The Student Life and Academic VPs work closely with the President and Vice President, and with only a year to create substantive progress in ASG, cohesion within the Executive Board is critical to the overall success of the organization,” they wrote.

The full letter to the editor is below:

First of all, we want to express our extreme gratitude to everyone who supported us in Wednesday’s elections. To those who changed their profile pictures, sent emails over listservs, stayed up late chalking and flyering, or spammed Facebook with statuses and event invites: thank you. We do not take our newly-elected positions lightly, and our top priority will be to make sure that students’ voices are heard both by ASG and the Northwestern administration.

With a runoff occurring in the race for President and Vice President, we think it is vital that we voice our opinions on who we want to see lead the ASG Executive Board. After much consideration, we would like to support Victor Shao and Brad Stewart for President and Vice President. We believe that their vision for Northwestern aligns with our platforms for Student Life and Academics. The Student Life and Academic VPs work closely with the President and Vice President, and with only a year to create substantive progress in ASG, cohesion within the Executive Board is critical to the overall success of the organization. Victor and Brad share our vision of where ASG needs to go and how to approach current issues, which will allow us to work effectively and start solving problems as early as day one.

The dynamic that Victor and Brad have together, as friends and working partners, sets them apart as candidates to lead ASG. Sharing a vision is important, but proven and established relationships will be crucial within the Executive Board when it comes to actually implementing change. Victor and Brad will provide the leadership, vision, and drive necessary to make ASG an organization that truly allows students to (pardon the slogan) express themselves. We are proud to give our endorsement to Victor Shao and Brad Stewart for the positions of ASG President and Vice President, and strongly encourage you to vote for them on Friday.

Sincerely,

Alex Van Atta, Student Life Vice President-elect
Neil Mehta, Academic Vice President-elect
