SEED works with various entities around campus to organize events, brainstorm new initiatives and projects, and help Northwestern's environmental community grow while its environmental impact diminishes. In the past, SEED has co-sponsored events like Fall Speaker and Intersections Lecture Series with ESW, ECO, the Departments of Political Science, Environmental Science and Policy Program, and College Democrats. SEED continually seeks new collaborations. Please contact us if you have any inquiries.Earth Day at Northwestern, Mt. TrashmoreIn Spring of 2008, numerous groups around campus joined together to celebrate Earth Day with Mt. Trashmore. Outside of Lunt Hall right on Sheridan Road, a huge pile of garbage loomed over the passersby, representing the total amount of waste produced by NU in just 6 hours. Accompanied by informational booths from NU Recycling and Norris Bookstore, volunteers handed out reusable mugs and bags in hopes of raising awareness among the NU community about the amount of waste produced and ways to reduce it.GREEN House During the 2007-2008 academic year, some SEED members, along with other students, faculty, and administration, noticed that unlike many other colleges and universities, Northwestern did not have a residence hall that was environmentally focused. In light of this, they set out to establish one. After drafting a proposal and gaining support from the Northwestern administration, the idea of an eco-living community became a reality. In the 2008-2009 academic year, the Group Residence for Environmental Engagement at Northwestern (GREEN) began and is eagerly lookin forward to what the futrue holds.
