Sailing at Northwestern is a Club Sport. This means that while the University Supports the team and we do charge dues, it is nessisary for the team to fundraise. All team memebers are required to participate in fundraising events each quarter and can be found vending at football games, cleaning up after basketball games, writing thank you letter for the NU Alumni Assosiation, or most noticable taking people out sailing during our Anual "Sail with a Sailor" fundraisor. |

Sail with a Sailor Over Memorial Day Weekend, NUST held its biggest fundraising event of the year. The 2nd annual “Sail with a Sailor” fundraiser invite students, staff and Evanston residents to join us on Lake Michigan for a weekend of sailing, tubing, barbequing, and enjoying the first warm weekend at NU this spring. On the water, sailors taught their new partners the fundamentals of how to sail, including how to pull in the jib and mainsheets, how to steer the boat and how to hike out. Thanks to the perfect wind conditions, students and Evanston residents had only good things to say when they got back on shore. Many of our guests had never been in a boat before the event, but showed serious interest in taking up sailing in the future. We made over $1000 in total, which we plan to use in the upcoming fall season to help send teams away to regattas all across the nation. Though it is only the second time we’ve run Sail with a Sailor, the success of the event left us excited for the potential to build on the traditional for years to come at Northwestern. |
