4th Place(2nd MCSA) at 2007 Timmie Angstun Reggata, Chicago Yacht Club

The 61st annual Timme Angsten Memorial Regatta greeted its participants, as always, with freezing temperatures and shifty winds. Throughout the course of the three day regatta, the Northwestern Sailing team was constantly changing crews and strategy to best fit the conditions. James Costakis skippered A division, with Christine Heckmann and Erin Miller alternating as crews. Tod Reynolds was the B division skipper, with Amanda Snyder as crew.(more)

7th Place at 2007 Sloop National Championship, Fort Worth Boat Club

After a tight qualifier in Detroit, we flew to Fort Worth, Texas on November 15th to compete in the ICSA Sloop National Championship.  Strong current and light breeze made for very close competition in Detroit.  But such conditions did little to prepare Tod Reynolds (sophomore, MEAS), Don Thinschmidt (senior, WCAS) and me (junior, MEAS) for the national event.

17th at 2007 Single Handed National Championship, University of Washington

After narrowly missing a birth at last years single handed nationals as a freshman, I was set on qualifying for the event as a sophomore. Qualifiers were held in big breeze and decent waves on Lake Michigan out of St. Joseph Yacht Club. Junior Jimmy Costakis and Senior Christine Heckman also attended. At the end of the weekend having sailed in conditions that ranged from flat and light to chop with breeze I was in second and going to Nationals while Jimmy was a close 5th. Christine, having never raced a laser before improved throughout the weekend.(more)

2nd at 2007 Wisco Womens Champs, Wiconson University

This fall's Women's Regatta in Madison, Wisconsin was especially exciting for the women of NUST.  Along with the beautiful weather and the impressive competition, we secured two births and were able to send a large percentage of our great new freshmen class. The freshmen duo of Sarah Hughes and Frankie Ferrero stunned ever our own team, as they held their own in the competitive fleet.  Additionally, many freshmen women were able to participate in their first-ever college regatta. (more)

2007 Big Boat Promotional Event, Larchmont Yacht Club, NY

This October, six members of the sailing team traveled to Larchmont, NY to continue a four year tradition: competing in the Storm Trysail Intercollegiate Regatta.  Daniel Bohl, Tamu Christ, Grace Heckmann, Liz Hines, Teresa Fox, and Tyler Lorenzi traded the hiking straps and centerboards of 420’s for the winches and keels of a J/105 (a 10.5-meter boat).(more)
