Water Sanitation & Access

This year, we will be continuing with our theme from last year, educating our local community on the global water crisis and volunteering abroad during spring break.

Did you know?

1. Almost one billion people in the world lack access to safe drinking water and two of every five people live without basic sanitation services. Dirty water is the second biggest killer of children under the age of five.

2. Global warming, rapid industrialization and population and economic growth will continue to put pressure on global water supplies, particularly in developing nations.

3. Already, the United States has made a difference in the world: last year alone the U.S. helped provide nearly 2 million people with first time access to an improved source of drinking water and more than 1.5 million people to improved sanitation.

4. Water issues can no longer be seen as isolated problems, but must instead be viewed as factors contributing to regional tensions, global health, child and maternal mortality, and economic growth.
