About Rotaract
Derived from "Rotary in Action," the organization emphasizes a strong commitment to promoting world understanding and peace through the development of leadership among youth. Today, there are more than 7,500 Rotary-supported Rotaract clubs with more than 175,000 members in 164 countries around the world.
More than a community service club, Rotaract is part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world. This effort starts at the community level, but it knows no limits in its outreach. While Rotaract clubs organize a variety of projects and activities, there are three types of activities within the program that all clubs undertake in varying degrees: professional development, leadership development, and service project development. At the international level, Rotaractors and Rotarians have the opportunity to attend an annual forum held prior to the Rotary International Convention. This event offers Rotaractors from all over the world the chance to meet, discuss issues of mutual interest, and develop bonds of international understanding and goodwill. When young adults join Rotaract, they join a community which extends across the world, bringing friendship and hope to the lives of people around them.
Object of Rotary
Rotary encourages and fosters the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, encourages and fosters:
- The development of friendship as an opportunity for service;
- High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society
- The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life
- The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The Four-Way Test
Of the things we think, say or do:
- Is it the truth?
- Is it fair to all concerned?
- Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
