Welcome!

This is the website for the Undergraduate Philosophy Society (UPS) at Northwestern University. UPS was created to provide Northwestern undergraduates with an informal setting in which to discuss philosophy.

Weekly meetings are held at the Celtic Knot in downtown Evanston during the academic year. In addition to student-run meetings, UPS also invites professors to speak on a variety of topics. These and other special events will take place throughout the year, and will be updated here on our website.

UPS is committed to an interdisciplinary approach to philosophy. We welcome students from all academic backgrounds. During the meetings, a student presents background information about the week's philosophy topic, and then we have an open discussion. Often the most interesting conversations happen when we throw interdisciplinary ideas into the mix. These ideas challenge our assumptions about the solidity and value of philosophical concepts.

At UPS, this type of challenge is welcomed.
