OASIS (Organized Action by Students Invested in Society) is a community service umbrella organization serving seventeen sites (and counting) in Evanston and Chicago. Our sites reflect a variety of social issues and range from: tutoring adults in basic reading to advanced mathematics, to mentoring overlooked, underprivileged youth, to forming friendships with our community's senior citizens. At these sites and in our other on-campus volunteer opportunities, OASIS encourages the creation of long-term commitments to the individuals with whom we work. Our focus on reciprocity in our relationships and reflection on our time spent volunteering ensures that we are aware of the complexity and diversity of our community and the affect we have as active members of it. We challenge ourselves and others to constantly recognize the outside world and that the people with whom we work affect us as much as we do them.


Through our on-campus programming, including speakers and panels, we seek to explore the role of community service and volunteerism, as well as larger issues of social justice that we encounter at our sites.

Transportation will be provided by the site leaders in Northwestern University vans. Please feel free to ask your site leader any questions regarding the site.


As OASIS believes that valuable experiences in community service come through consistent volunteerism that allows individuals to develop meaningful relationships, we encourage volunteers to attend their site regularly. However, we understand that it is not simple to find an organization that captures your passion. Please feel free to try volunteering at any of our sites at any time of the year.
