Letter from the Chair
Greetings Delegates!
Welcome to NUMUN III and the General Assembly’s Fourth Committee: Special, Political, and Decolonization! My name is Eugenio Vargas, and I will be your chair for this year’s conference. I’ll start out with a bit of information about myself. I’m a freshman at Northwestern in the School of Communication majoring in theatre and minoring in Mathematics. I am originally from Oak Ridge, Tennessee. During all four years of high school, I attended the North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN) in Washington, D.C. and I’m excited to be a part of NUMUN and help what is a relatively young conference grow.
I hope you find my background guides useful. I tried to keep the information as general as possible and allow each of you to do plenty of additional research. Please be familiar with all of the details of your country, the topics, and the workings of the United Nations. I’ve always found it helpful to have a copy of the Charter of the United Nations and a copy of your country’s governing document (i.e. constitution) to refer to during the conference. Always remember that your first responsibility is to your country, and it is your duty to keep the UN from taking any action that would infringe upon the laws of your state and your national sovereignty.
I think I will leave it at that for now. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at e-vargas@northwestern.edu and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I am extremely excited about this conference, and I hope you are too. I can’t wait to meet each and every one of you in April as we begin our work!
Sincerely,
Eugenio A. Vargas
