Welcome to the ISO Homepage! - Mission Statement

The IBiS Student Organization (ISO) was founded on the premise of creating a unified voice for the graduate students within IBiS and having an impact on life science department procedures, as well as Northwestern University as a whole. It was initiated by students to bring all students within the departments under the IBiS umbrella together in the interest of developing an efficient and fruitful environment for young scientists.

ISO's missions are threefold: 1) addressing academic and political procedures at Northwestern, 2) research issues in the life sciences, 3) and promoting social interaction. We have student representatives that sit on committees at all levels of the IBiS program as well as the rest of the university. We host prominent speakers from the scientific community as well as a Graduate Student Seminar that provides an informal venue in which students can present their research to other students in the absence of faculty. Finally, our social events promote interactions outside of the lab, not only amongst IBiS students, but also graduate students and faculty from other departments.

ISO holds general meetings open to all students to discuss current issues affecting IBiS students. We encourage everyone to bring ideas to that forum, or discuss them with others so their thoughts can be addressed. The success of this group depends on participation. We are proud of the achievements already made as a result of student efforts and very excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.
