Descriptions of Award Criteria

Events
All events will be judged in the context of group size.
 

Best Cultural/Entertainment Event
The best social / cultural / entertainment event will be judged on three criteria:  uniqueness, quality, and ability to expose students to other cultures, social engagement, and/or entertain them.

Most Creative Event / Piece of Art / Performance
This category needs no more description.

Best Community Service / Educational Outreach
The best community service / educational outreach will be judged on: impact, participation, and difficulty (difficulty is intentionally left vague).

Best Collaborative Event
This category is for events which exemplify the collaboration between graduate student organizations.

Groups
Group awards will be judged in the context of group size.
 

Best Advocacy Group of the Year
This award goes to the group which has best championed or defended student rights or student interests at either the school wide or department/discipline level.

Greatest Annual Organizational Growth
The greatest organizational growth will be judged in terms of roster membership, active membership, or influence. The standards for the growth award will be strongly tied to group size.

Best Community Building Grant Organization
The aims of the community building grants are to encourage socialization and/or build community amongst graduate students. This award goes to the community building grant group which has done the best job of meeting these goals.

Departmental / Discipline / Professional Organization of the Year
This category is necessarily vague: describe how the organization has met its goals and/or how the organization has excelled in improving things for its members or the graduate student population as a whole. This category includes departmental organizations as well as TGS-wide organizations that foster entrepreneurship and alternative careers.

TGS-Wide Association of the Year
This category is necessarily vague: describe the organization's goals and/or how the organization has excelled in improving things for its members or the graduate student population as a whole. This category includes TGS-wide associations which are bound by common ground unrelated to career paths.

Leaders
The Emerging Graduate Student Leader of the Year and Graduate Student Leader of the Year awards may go to leaders of any level/size of organization, though the awards committee may judge these awards based on any criteria they see fit.
 

Emerging Graduate Student Leader of the Year
This award goes to a graduate student leader who is in their earlier years of graduate school, and/or who has newly become a graduate student leader. Describe how the individual has gotten off to a strong start as a leader in the past year or two.

Graduate Student Leader of the Year
This award goes to a graduate student leader who has displayed great leadership in heading either a large or small organization through building an organization or pulling at the helm of an organization. Describe this individual's accomplishments in the past year or more, and distinguish between this individual's personal work versus work led by this individual that was done by others.
