Northwestern University College Democrats

11/2/09

This Thursday, we're bringing the fight to pass health care reform to Northwestern. We'll be making phone calls to Democrats outside Cook County, to enlist them in the fight for health care reform. In just a few hours, you can make a big difference; these are calls to friendly but often isolated Democrats who want to talk and are happy to hear how they can affect the health care debate. Cell phones are (alas!) required. We'll also be assisting OFA with data entry, so if you prefer typing to talking bring in your wireless-friendly laptop.

This week's meeting will be held tomorrow, Sunday the 25th, from 7-8pm in University Hall 101. The topic of the night is "Obama and the Afghanistan Dilemma." We will be discussing the President's options regarding Afghanistan and their implications for the future of the American military.

Greetings, fellow Democrats. This week's meeting will be held on October 11 in University 101 from 7-8pm. This week’s topic for discussion will be “President Obama: A Nine-Month Check-Up.” The President has been criticized lately for failing to follow through on many of his campaign promises. But then he goes and wins a Nobel Peace Prize. There’s just no defining the guy. This week, we’ll try to define the guy.

Elliot Richardson, a Democratic candidate for the 10th Congressional District of Illinois, will be at our meeting this Sunday to talk about his platform and opportunities to be involved in the race. The 10th District is just north our own 4th District and includes North Shore suburbs like Winnetka, Buffalo Grove, Lake Forest and Libertyville. Its current congressman, Republican Mark Kirk, is leaving the seat to run for the Senate seat currently occupied by Roland Burris.

Our weekly meeting will be held October 4 in University 101 from 7-8pm. This week's topic for discussion will be "Hyperbole, Racism and other Nonsense: Are Republican politicians capable of rational criticism?" Going through the news every day, it's hard to find any constructive conservative criticism characterized by use of facts, reasoned arguments and lowered voices. We will discuss the impact of this on the Republican party and what Democrats should do to fight it.

And there's more! Jim Madigan, a Democrat running for the Illinois State Senate 7th district seat, will speak on his candidacy and his expertise on GBLT issues working with Lambda Legal and as interim director of Equality Illinois. The 7th District is just south of Evanston and includes Rogers Park, Andersonville and Lincoln Square, as well as Loyola University.
