Alpha Chi Omega was founded on October 15th 1885, at DePauw University in Indiana. The fraternity's six founders were women in the school of music wished to be part of an organization for sisterhood and musical appreciation. While our sorority is no longer an exclusive music society, we still enjoy showing our appreciation for the arts.
Our symbol is the lyre, which was chosen because it was the first instrument played by the mythical Greek gods on Mount Olympus. Our colors are scarlet and olive, which were inspired by the colors of autumn trees to commemorate the season in which we were founded.
Gamma Chapter was founded on November 14, 1890 as the third chapter of Alpha Chi. Our house was built in 1927 as part of the first NU women's quadrangle. We have enjoyed over 100 years of sisterhood, scholarship, and service on the Northwestern campus!
