We are dedicated to promoting chess in the Northwestern community by providing a comfortable chess-playing environment. We also present students with the opportunity to play in a chess league and in intercollegiate matches. We meet every Tuesday at 7 pm at Norris.

African Student Association (ASA)

The African Student Association is an organization of students dedicated to increasing Northwestern's cultural bank of knowledge and African awareness through entertaining and educational programming.

Alianza -- The Hispanic/Latino Student Alliance

The purpose of Alianza, the largest Hispanic/Latino student organization at Northwestern University, is to unite and support its members to work towards the advancement of an empowered, productive, Hispanic/Latino presence at this institution. Alianza is a cultural, educational, and social programming body, which also serves as a vehicle for activism.

Alpine Ski Racing Team

The Ski and Snowboard Team races on weekends during the first two months of Winter Quarter. We keep an informal atmosphere, encourage participation (no race experience necessary), and put precedent on having fun. Training is usually midweek at Wilmont Mountain. Participation in any event is optional.

A&O Productions

A&O is Northwestern's all-campus programming group. We seek to enrich the lives of students, faculty, and staff by providing events such as concerts, speakers, comedians, and films.

Arts Alliance

Arts Alliance is the largest student theatre production company in the nation. We seek to expand the scope of theatre at Northwestern by creating and fostering an environment where students can develop their artistic and organizational abilities.

Asterik - All Male A Cappella

Asterik is Northwestern's premier all male a cappella group, founded in 1996. Check out our website or contact our General Director for information on our group, auditions, and upcoming shows!

BOOMSHAKA

Boomshaka is Northwestern's percussion/dance performance group. From hip-hop to tap, from just grooving to hard-core drumming, from singing to rhyming, Boomshaka does it all. Boomshaka has taken its funk, energy, and loudness to people all across the country, from Florida to New York - and even Toronto, Canada. Keep your eye on Boom as it continues to evolve.

Bridge Club

Bridge Club meets weekly for casual games, 7 PM in the faculty dining lounge of Norris. All skill levels welcome (including no knowledge of the game).

Catatonics

The Catatonics are a coed graduate student a cappella group at Northwestern University. Formed in 1997, the group has found a place in the musical community in Evanston. We perform both on and off-campus, at showhalls, saloons, street corners and salons.

Chicago Graduate Student Association

CGSA is a graduate student organization encompassing the Integrated Graduate Program, Medical Scientist Training Program, Northwestern University Institute for Neuroscience, Genetic Counseling, Clinical Psychology, and Physical Therapy. CGSA provides a forum to address the academic, social, and political needs of Chicago campus graduate students, and promotes interactions with the Evanston campus.

Dance Marathon

Dance Marathon is one of the largest student-run philanthropies in the world. It is consistently one of the most popular events on Northwestern's campus. With nearly 1000 student dancers and committee members and thousands of other students who are aware of and involved with DM throughout the year, it is definitely one of the biggest Traditions at Northwestern. This year, our primary beneficiary is Project Kindle, and the Evanston Community Foundation is our secondary beneficiary.

Dead City Productions

Dead City Productions is a group of Northwestern students, alumni and their guests who participate in live-action roleplaying roughly every other week. LARPing, as we like to call it, is ideal for people who consider themselves "gamers" (you know who you are), as well as actors who enjoy the more improvisational side of acting.

Dolphin Show

The Dolphin Show is a non-profit student theatre organization that annually produces America's largest student-produced musical. With a team of over 150 undergraduate students, The Dolphin Show celebrates the diverse talents of the Northwestern University undergraduate community by providing opportunities to learn and excel in all artistic and administrative fields. The Dolphin Show presents a professional-caliber production, while involving the greater Chicago community through outreach. Now in its 68th year, The Dolphin Show is proud to present the contemporary American musical, PARADE, by Jason Robert Brown, Harold Prince, and Alfred Uhry. We are a group of composers and performers at Northwestern University and from Chicago dedicated to promoting new music. We encourage collaboration on new projects, and organize new music concerts highlighting the works of young composers

Flicker Film Festival

The Flicker Film Festival is Northwestern's own annual international film festival. The event showcases dozens of student films from across the country and around the world. A prominent artist in the film industry opens the festival with a lecture, and films are shown for three days. Prizes are awarded to winners in several categories.

Fusion Dance Company

Founded in 2002, Fusion Dance Company has since grown into a comprehensive group of approximately 30 talented dancers from a vast variety of backgrounds and experience. Fusion performs various hip hop pieces at showcases and events throughout the year, culminating in a themed pring showcase that features approximately 20 self-choreographed pieces that range from tap and jazz, to popping and breakdancing. Graffiti Dancers® is a not-for-profit, student-run organization, and the premier dance company at Northwestern University. Griffin's Tale

Every year, we work with Chicago area schools, taking children's creative works, turning them into songs and sketches, and performing them both at the schools and within the Northwestern community.

The Hawaii Club shares Hawaiian culture with the Midwest through events such as our annual luau and supports Hawaii students during their college careers.

Welcome to Fiedler Hillel at Northwestern University, where Jewish life on campus is vibrant, engaging and exciting! We are the foundation of Jewish life at Northwestern University, with over 15 student groups, a nationally distributed quarterly magazine, Schmooze, exciting speakers such as Andy Samberg and Jason Alexander, Israel programs, weekly free Shabbat dinners, as well as many ways to express your Judaism on campus.

Inspire Films

Inspire Films is a Northwestern University student initiative that aims to produce social issue films that engage with topics affecting our local and international communities. Believing that film has the power to motivate thoughtful discussion and action, Inspire Films produces media and relevant programs that inspire thought, dialogue, critical discussion, and action in regards to various social issues. The goal of Inspire is to create an interdisciplinary approach to filmmaking, allowing students from across disciplines to work together in creating socially responsible and critical media.

Jewish Theatre Ensemble

The Jewish Theatre Ensemble exists to provide the Northwestern community with high quality entertainment and exposure to Jewish involvement in the arts. The organization aspires to challenge common perceptions and generate conversation relating to issues that fall within the resonance of the Jewish experience through artistic media with particular relevance to the Northwestern community. JTE will be involved in the celebration and education of Jewish culture on campus. In order to do this, The Jewish Theatre Ensemble will operate at a level of artistic excellence as well as encourage and support creative endeavors that promote Jewish themes in the arts.

Mayfest

Mayfest offers Northwestern varied and exciting programming during the month of May. Mayfest's programming culminates with Armadillo Day, a day-long music festival.

Mee-Ow

Founded in 1974, Mee-Ow is Northwestern University's premiere short-form comedy group combining sketch, improv and rock n' roll.

MOC & WOC: Commuter Organization

MOC & WOC (Men Off Campus & Women Off Campus) is Northwestern's only organization dedicated to commuters and off-campus students. Dating back to the 1940s, MOC & WOC's goal is to foster community and create an identity and sense of belonging for commuters at Northwestern. We host numerous social events, run the Commuter Orientation during New Student Week, and advocate for commuter issues.

NAYO Dance Ensemble

NAYO Dance Ensemble is an FMO affiliate that promotes and encourages artistic appreciation and social unity through dancing and the performing arts. In addition, we work to enhance the Black community, communities of other minorities, and work to donate towards charities. NAYO is not only a dance ensemble with experience in modern dance, hip-hop, tap, Latin, African Dance, Salsa, ballet, and lyrical, but also a performance group looking for talented individuals who can sing and play music. The fusion of different types of dances and other aspects of performance are what make NAYO innovative, artistic, creative, and a true standout performance group on campus. Nightcrawlers

Nightcrawlers is an organization that unites students, faculty, and staff in fighting against drinking and driving and dangerous binge drinking. Our goal is to raise the awareness of the students on campus who are at risk for such dangerous behaviors by promoting responsible drinking habits to those who choose to drink.

Niteskool Productions

For over 22 years, Niteskool Productions has been a advocate for Northwestern student bands. Taking on the roles of booking agent, publicity, and video producers, Niteskool performs a myriad of activities for student bands and artists. We book shows, we throw parties, we make music videos for you and your band at Niteskool Productions.

Northwestern Class Alliance (NCA)

The Northwestern Class Alliance is an organization composed of four individual class councils whose purpose is to foster campus unity, alumni relations and class identity through social and eduactional programming.

Northwestern Community Ensemble (NCE)

Northwestern Hacky Sack Club

An undergraduate student club devoted to the pastime of footbagging. Such activities will include footbagging, elimination tournaments, skill assesments, clinics, lessons, movie nights, and social events.

Northwestern Ladycats Dance Team

The Northwestern Varsity Dance Team -- a.k.a. The Ladycats -- is a varsity team that is supported by the Northwestern Athletic Department. We actively perform and practice throughout the fall, winter and spring. The team competes at UDA College Spirit Camp each summer, as well as at the UDA College National Dance Team Championship in Orlando each January. Most recently, the Ladycats competed in the final round of the championship in January 2007, ultimately finishing 15th! Additionally, the Ladycats cheer and dance at all home football and basketball games, and participate in additional appearances, performances, and philanthropy events throughout the year.

Northwestern Sketch Television (NSTV)

NSTV (Northwestern Sketch Television) is Northwestern University’s premier sketch comedy group. Comprised of over sixty students, we write, direct, shoot, edit, promote, and act in our very own sketches throughout the year. In addition to making content for the Internet and our annual premiere, NSTV throws two live comedy shows on campus, goes on field trips to comedy shows in Chicago, organizes educational comedy workshops/speaker events, and produces an annual video for Dance Marathon, Northwestern’s largest philanthropic organization. Northwestern Syllabus Yearbook

Syllabus, founded in 1885, is the official undergraduate yearbook of Northwestern University. Published by SPC (Students Publishing Company) and run by Northwestern students, Syllabus seeks to include memorable events and highlights of each year as well as campus groups, organizations and living units. All graduating seniors are invited to have their portrait taken and included in a senior section. Syllabus yearbooks are delivered on campus in May of each year. The 2009 yearbook will be available on campus in May!

Northwestern University Marching Band Alto Saxophone Section

The Alto Saxophone Section of the Northwestern University Marching Band is a group of fun loving students who enjoy music and drill as well as supporting their Alma Mater and always cheering on the 'Cats! Performances are in the fall with opportunities to participate in athletic bands in the winter as well; social activities occur throughout the course of the year.

NUpowerlifting

The powerlifting club is a competitive organization for anyone in the northwestern community with an interest in powerlifting or Olympic style weightlifting. We compete in powerlifting meets in the Midwest area throughout the year. Undergraduate and graduate students of all levels of experience, genders, and weight classes are encouraged to join. Practice is at 5PM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons at Patten.

JOIN THE OUTING CLUB for Adventure and Challenge! We go backpacking, biking, canoing, climbing, cross country skiing, lugeing etc. Not only do you get to return to nature, you are also training your leadership skills (if you plan or lead trips) and you get to meet fun people while doing it. What's more, we've got equipment (camping, climbing gear) you can check out for free! So............................................................ Go Outing!

Persian American Representatives of Students (PARS)

The Persian American Representatives of Students' (PARS) goals are to promote understanding, raise campus awareness, and eliminate ignorance towards the rich artistic, literary, and philosophical traditions of Persian culture. PARS will provide a unified voice and community for Persian-American students as well as all other students on campus.

Poker Club

This a recreational club that allows people to gather and play various kinds of poker, discuss strategy and generally enjoy themselves. Purple Haze

Despite the overwhelming number of a cappella groups at Northwestern University and on college campuses across the country, Purple Haze has made a name for itself by maintaining high standards of musicality, impeccable arrangements, and stunning performances to sold out audiences. Formed in 1996, Purple Haze is a small group of talented musicians committed not only to maintaining the impressive musicality required for award-winning a cappella, but also long-lasting friendships. Purple Haze performs three shows a year, tours both nationally and internationally, and has released six studio albums. Purple Haze has been featured on Best of College A Cappella collections, Voices Only CD compilations (voicesonlyacappella.com), received rave Recorded A Cappella Review Board (RARB) reviews, and garnered many CARA and ACA awards. Recently, Purple Haze competed in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) Finals at the Lincoln Center.

Significant Others A Cappella

Significant Others is Northwestern's only all-female a cappella group and remains one of NU's finest. This talented, high-energy crowd has 12-14 members and holds auditions in the fall. Besides performing at gigs throughout the year, Sig O hosts and performs their own full show each spring.

Ski and Snowboard Club

Our goal is to provide a means for those who enjoy skiing and snowboarding to participate in vacations with other Northwestern Students to mountain resort destinations at an affordable price. These trips occur during the Winter and Spring breaks giving students the chance to have fun and meet new people after their hard finals weeks have ended. The winter ski trip is the largest in the country and last year over 900 students came along.

South Asian Medical Student Association

The South Asian Medical Student Association (SAMSA) has a lot of exciting ideas for the upcoming year, and we encourage everyone to participate, regardless of ethnic background! SAMSA is dedicated to providing quality health care and health education to the increasingly underserved population of South Asians in our community. Studio 22

Studio 22 is an entirely student-run production company that exists to provide extracurricular filmmaking opportunities not provided in production classes. We currently fund eleven student films totaling $23,000 each year that are showcased at the end of each school year. We aim to produce ambitious, high-quality student films and serve as an active agent in the development of Studio 22 projects. Studio 22 exists to serve and challenge the film community in all aspects and to provide opportunities to experiment in filmmaking, as well as to develop networks with alumni and film professionals. We also provide educational opportunities via workshops and speakers, and we aim to introduce new filmmakers to student film. In essence, Studio 22 continually strives to promote education, ambition, and quality in Northwestern filmmakers.

Swashbucklers Club

An organization open to anyone who has an inexplicable fascination with pirates. Aims to increase social awareness of piratery. We, of the Swashbucklers Club, wish to create a good rapport between Northwestern's pirate and non-pirate communities. We also lost our Captain and First Mate to the sea, and we need a crew of able seafarers to find them.

Syncopation

Northwestern's newest and hottest co-ed acapella group. Syncopation sings music from a variety of styles, especially pop, r&b, and rock. They take popular songs and turn them into something that no other group has done before.

The Titanic Players

The Titanic Players are the top long-form college improvisers in the country. Trained by profesionals from Second City and Improv Olympic each of the three teams perform totally improvised comedic pieces up to an hour long each. A whole new team is auditioned every fall.

The Undertones

The Undertones is a mixed A Cappella group who performs contemporary music. This 15-member group performs at events on campus, and holds annual concerts. Auditions are held every fall quarter.

Thunk

THUNK is Northwestern's premier co-ed a cappella group. The group arranges all of their own music and records cd’s, allowing members to develop both their musical talents and vocal abilities. After their tour to Cape Town, South Africa in 2005, THUNK has created The Cape Town Project – a music education tour and performing arts camp in the townships of Cape Town in conjunction with the “Ikamva Labantu” charity for mothers and children suffering from HIV/AIDS. The group returns to South Africa this December. www.thunksings.com

TONIK Tap

TONIK Tap is Northwestern's only tap dance company, specializing in rhythm and syncopation. We wish to enhance the performing art community at Northwestern, as well as the greater Chicago area, through our wide range of technical capabilities, sound sense of rhythm, and signature sense of humor. Trappers, Shooters, & Anglers Club

The goals of the Trappers, Shooters, & Anglers Club are to expand and promote collegiate level fishing competition, share outdoor stories and tips, provide opportunities for fishing and hunting, and finally to maintain and improve our fragile wildlife.

Undergraduate English Association

The Northwestern University Undergraduate English Association exists to promote the literary interests of the student body, provide services for majors and those with English interests, facilitate those involved with the major, serve as a liaison for communication between students and the English administration, and organize activities.

Undergraduate Philosophy Society

The Northwestern Undergraduate Philosophy Society is an organization dedicated to discuss, read and meet for philosophy-related activities.

Undergraduate RTVF Student Association

URSA is the official student council of RTVF. We meet with the faculty to voice student concerns, foster community within the program, and develop programs to enhance the Radio/Television/Film experience.

WAVE Productions

Wave Productions is a self-supporting, not-for-profit student theatre company operating primarily on Northwestern University's Evanston Campus. Wave exists to share the stories of the past and present in order to open the door to a better future.

WildKatz Klezmer Band

NU's only klezmer band, playing a mix of Eastern European Jewish music and jazz. All are welcome, weekly rehearsals and occasional performances for pay. No prior experience is necessary.

X-Factors

What is the X-Factor? When it comes to a cappella, it's the flavors you know with an added taste of the unexpected. X-Factors is one of Northwestern's finest coed a cappella groups. It prides itself in being a unique, fun and imaginative group of musicians. We perform an eclectic range of music and all arrangements come from within the group.
