Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is America's first Greek-letter organization established by Black college women. Founded in 1908 at Howard University in Washington D.C, Alpha Kappa Alpha is a vital channel through which selected college-trained women of high scholastic and ethical standards improve the socioeconomic conditions in their city, state, nation, and the world. The Gamma Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1969 at Northwestern University. The lovely ladies of the 'Fly' Gamma Chi chapter have upheld the prestigious reputation of being a socially conscious and community leadership driven organization for almost forty years. We are dedicated to reaching the community with weekly, monthly and quarterly service oriented projects and other programming that align with our national program targets of Education, The Black Family, Economics, Health, and the Arts. Some of Gamma Chi's many community outreach projects are the Annual Scholarship Ball honoring area high school seniors, the North Suburban Area Project tutoring and mentoring program, the Y-Me Breast Cancer Walk, Hilda's Place Soup Kitchen outreach, O.A.S.I.S. Campus Kitchen at Northwestern

The Campus Kitchen at Northwestern University is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to developing creative and effective solutions to hunger and education deficiencies in the greater Evanston area. By collecting excess food (that’s still safe to serve!) from on-campus dining facilities and local restaurants, we are able to provide 50,000 free and healthy meals each year to those in need. We then pair these meals with a range of educational programming, spanning from tutoring and mentoring to college preparation and culinary job training.

Catholic Undergrads/Sheil Catholic Center

Catholic Undergrads is a student fellowship group sponsored by the Sheil Catholic Center (2110 Sheridan Road). We hold weekly events on Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. at Sheil. Activities range from social events to service projects to discussions of various faith-related topics. Sheil Catholic Center welcomes all students into a faith community in the Roman Catholic tradition. Sheil sponsors retreats, lectures, discussions, service trips, bible study, small faith groups and many other ministries and activities. Chicago Graduate Student Association

CGSA is a graduate student organization encompassing the Integrated Graduate Program, Medical Scientist Training Program, Northwestern University Institute for Neuroscience, Genetic Counseling, Clinical Psychology, and Physical Therapy. CGSA provides a forum to address the academic, social, and political needs of Chicago campus graduate students, and promotes interactions with the Evanston campus.

China Care

China Care is interested in supporting and saving the lives of abandoned Chinese orphans. We raise money to sponsor adoptions and surgeries for orphans that need them and we run a playgroup and a mentorship program for adopted orphans in the greater Chicago area. The money we raise goes to individual children, children with names and faces.

Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA)

Northwestern University Chinese Student and Scholar Association, founded in 1982, is now the largest and most influential international student group on campus. It is recognized by the Graduate School and the Graduate Leadership Council. NUCSSA aims at supporting Chinese students and scholars, promoting cultural exchange and cultural diversity at Northwestern University as well as in Chicago area. We sincerely welcome all students, scholars and friends from all background to join us and have fun. You will get a chance to meet new friends and appreciate Chinese culture. NUCSSA hosts activity and service events every month, including two major annual events: Moon Festival and Chinese New Year Celebration, which become two of the largest student events at Northwestern University. Moon Festival party is an outdoor event features Chinese Cuisine Appreciation, Karaoke Competition, Chef Competition and bonfire party. The 2006 Mid-autumn Festival is held at the lakefill; more than 400 people including university officers, faculty members, students, scholars and friends from Chicago area attended the event. The 2007 Chinese New Year Celebration is the first largest performance successfully hosted by NUCSSA members. We have more than 60 talented Northwestern students performed on this show and more than 20 invited guests from Chicago area. The two-hour performance features Chinese dancing, singing, instrument, comedy show, comedy dialogue, and fashion show. Around 500 people joined NUCSSA family to celebrate the exciting moment for the Chinese New Year. NUCSSA is also an active member in building the Chinese community around Chicago area. We successfully directed and hosted the very first Chicago-Land Chinese Student and Scholar Spring Festival in 2006, with the support from six brother universities around Chicago area. Initiated and promoted by NUCSSA, this event now becomes an annual event for all the universities in Chicago land. We aim to promote the awareness of Chinese culture while encouraging a social environment for students of all backgrounds. It is College Feminists' mission to address the intersection of gender, race, sexuality and culture by initiating positive change in all social spaces. We believe in equal rights between women and men on all social, political and economic levels. College Feminists is a group of students determined to make the campus and the community aware of the issues all women face.

Dance Marathon

Dance Marathon is one of the largest student-run philanthropies in the world. It is consistently one of the most popular events on Northwestern's campus. With nearly 1000 student dancers and committee members and thousands of other students who are aware of and involved with DM throughout the year, it is definitely one of the biggest Traditions at Northwestern. This year, our primary beneficiary is Project Kindle, and the Evanston Community Foundation is our secondary beneficiary.

Delta Chi Fraternity

The Delta Chi Fraternity was originally founded at Northwestern in 1893 and the Delta Chi chapter recolonized in 1997. Since then, we have become one of the strongest houses at Northwestern, priding ourselves on excellence in leadership, service, academics, athletics, and most of all character.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (Theta Alpha Chapter)

On January 13, 1913, 22 undergraduate women on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. started a revolution of their own, with the creation of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. True to its mathematical symbol, Delta has been committed to social change for almost a century. In the spirit of their founders, the Theta Alpha Chapter, on Northwestern’s campus, was chartered on January 9, 1971. Today, the dynamic women of the Theta Alpha Chapter range from activists, pageant participants, magazine editors to researchers and sports journalists. Known on campus for their service as well as their overall leadership, the chapter keeps the community at the heart of their initiatives. Not a day goes by (literally) when they are not doing community service, social action, or politically-oriented programming. With their four weekly service projects, they implement their national Five-Point Thrusts: Educational Development, Economic Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement. The chapter has been nationally recognized for such programs as the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, "The Cost of Frontin’" Financial Fortitude Workshop, and "Touch the Sky" College Preparatory Workshop (in collaboration with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.). Annual events include (but are not limited to): Dessert with the Deltas, Fall/Spring Service Forum, HIV/AIDS Testing and Awareness Workshop, Founders Day Sip, May Week, and the Jabberwock Scholarship Ball. This award-winning chapter continues to raise the bar, defining themselves as far more than a social club—but a sisterhood committed to community service, social justice and the empowerment of youth.

Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children

FIMRC is an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of children around the world by providing both direct and indirect medical support. Our foremost goal is to provide children with the most basic medical needs by raising funds for and donating medical equipment and supplies to pediatric hospitals and clinics.

Freshman Urban Program

The Freshman Urban Program is a pre-New Student Week activity open to all incoming students of Northwestern University. FUP is an introduction to the neighborhoods within Chicago and Evanston. The program examines the issues that face these communities, the organizations that serve them and the means by which Northwestern students can effect change. FUP employs the theory of Asset-Based Community Development in teaching participants about issues as varied as housing, education, health care, politics, gentrification and community organizing. During this five day program, participants will stay in a youth hostel in Chicago's Loop area. From there they will be dispatched to volunteer at community centers, urban schools, homeless shelters and advocacy organizations throughout the city. Northwestern faculty and various community leaders will lead discussions on a variety of issues facing urban communities.

GlobalReach

GlobalReach is dedicated to introducing the Northwestern University community to the large array of volunteer activities available overseas and helping facilitate them. We as a group are also participating in projects run by larger organizations. One of our activities involves sponsoring a child named Vi Chi, a five-year old girl in Vietnam.

The Graduate Student Association (GSA) strives to support and enhance graduate students' experiences inside and outside of the classroom by organizing social opportunities for graduate students, advocating on behalf of graduate students to the University administration, representing graduate student interests on university committees, and creating resources and programs that enhance graduate life.

Graduate Student Association for Latino and Spanish Activities (G-SALSA)

G-SALSA (Graduate Student Association for Latino and Spanish Activities) was founded with the purpose of providing an environment where students can meet and interact with other students to celebrate Hispanic and Latin American Heritage. The membership of G-SALSA is open to all graduate students at Northwestern University who are interested in the Hispanic/Latinamerican culture.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. As an organization, Habitat seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Habitat has built more than 250,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. Habitat for Humanity Northwestern is a community service organization that sponsors Saturday building sites throughout the quarter. Our activities include painting, building, cleaning, and anything we can do to improve living conditions in the greater Chicagoland area.

IAESTE Northwestern University

The Northwestern chapter of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) gives students the opportunity to live and work in one of 86 member countries around the globe. The jobs are paid positions, can be completed for any length from 4 weeks to 18 months, and are available in any technical field such as engineering, math, or science.

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Student Branch

IEEE (Eye-triple-E) is a non-profit, technical professional association run by volunteers. It has 377,000 individual members in 150 countries. Technical areas within it range from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics, among others.

The Northwestern University Residence Hall Association exists to improve the quality of residential life for Northwestern University students. School of Music Student Advisory Board

Our goal is to create a community within the Northwestern University School of Music by promoting communication between students, faculty, and administration. School of Music Student Advisory Board

The Student Advisory Board of Northwestern's School of Music acts as a liaison between the student body and faculty members, giving both parties an opportunity to express concerns or ideas. SEED

Northwestern's Students for Ecological and Environmental Development (SEED) is the University's oldest and largest environmental student organization. Our mission is to pioneer, teach and model environmental stewardship so as to inspire our future leaders to act in ways that will sustain and protect our planet. In 2007-2008 SEED had a number of successes including improving the outdoor recycling program, advocating for stronger environmental academics, and assisting in the establishment of GREEN a dorm for environmental engagement that focuses on examined lifestyle, local service, and academics. Our other activities include large-scale programming, local environmental restoration work on the North Branch of the Chicago River, and representation in the University's Sustainability Working Group. We represent the Northwestern University chapter of Smoke-Free Chicago, a campaign to support the passage of a clean indoor air ordinance in the Chicago City Council to eliminate smoking in workplaces and public areas, including restaurants. We work under the guidance of the American Heart Association, and attend rallies and educate students to acheive a healthy, smoke-free Chicago.

Student Blood Services (SBS)

SBS has a core board of 10-15 members who organize and staff 5 campus-wide blood drives and 2 bone marrow registry drives every year. As the premier student-run group of its kind in the Midwest, SBS strives to inform the campus about the worthy cause of blood donation and bone marrow registry. The purpose of Students For Teach For America is to raise awareness and promote understanding in the Northwestern community about educational inequity in our country. Our organization allows students to take an active role in bridging the academic achievement gap by making a positive impact during the undergraduate years. This group also provides an exceptional resource for students considering applying to the Teach For America national organization upon graduating.

Suitcase Party

Each year Suitcase Party and its beneficiary work toward the annual party in May, which has become the largest party on campus. SP brings together more than 1500 students, faculty, and community members. Attendees listen to live music, enjoy free food, and enter drawings to win one of several grand prize trips around the world!

Trappers, Shooters, & Anglers Club

The goals of the Trappers, Shooters, & Anglers Club are to expand and promote collegiate level fishing competition, share outdoor stories and tips, provide opportunities for fishing and hunting, and finally to maintain and improve our fragile wildlife.

WEB seeks to provide career resources for undergraduate women and focuses on interaction both within the NU community as well as beyond with the business world. Young Life is a non-denominational Christian outreach to high school students. Young Life Fellowship is an opportunity for NU students to get together for fellowship, worship and for discipleship/leadership training. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated

On January 16, 1920, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded at Howard University on the precepts of Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love and Finer Womanhood. It was the first Greek letter organization to charter a chapter in Africa; form adult and youth auxiliary groups; centralize in a national headquarters; and is the ONLY sorority constitutionally bound to a fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. The Nu Sigma Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta was chartered on Northwestern's campus in 2005 and since its inception, members of the chapter have been committed to upholding the sorority's principles.
