African Drum and Dance Ensemble

ADDE is Northwestern's first African Drum and Dance Ensemble. We perform mostly West African dances but we specialize in a number of different dances and drum techniques across the continent of Africa. Every spring we put on a yearly showcase of different African dances. No former experience in African drumming or dancing is necessary, but it would be helpful.

AIESEC

AIESEC ("eye-sec") is the world's largest student-run (non-profit) organisation. We are present in over 95 countries, 1000 colleges, and have over 60,000 members! The local community at Northwestern is one of the most active in the world. AIESEC strives to promote cultural understanding through international exchange and campus events. American Medical Association

AID is a non-partisan organization that seeks to raise awareness among students. AID fulfills its mission by coordinating town hall meetings on America's role in the world, hosting leadership retreats, and publishing opinion pieces and reports on issues of global importance. Through these efforts, AID seeks to build a new generation of globally conscious leaders who can shape an American foreign policy appropriate for our increasingly interdependent world.

Amnesty International - Northwestern University

Amnesty International is an internationally known human-rights advocacy group. Winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1976, the group functions through community and student based groups that use various forms of advocacy to work for equal human rights around the globe. AI is independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion.

Asian Pacific American Coalition

APAC is a pan-Asian undergraduate student coalition that strives: to unify, empower, and serve as the political voice of the Asian/Asian American student population at Northwestern; to explore and educate the campus community about the Asian American experience; and to foster an Asian American identity within the student population.

Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association

We are a national organization that aims to address those issues important to Asian-American medical students. One part of our mission is to bring together Asians and others interested in the health issues that affect Asians so that we may have a strong, collective, public and political voice. We are interested in both directly promoting the health and well-being of the Asian community as well

Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA)

The Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA) primarily serves the needs of black graduate students. However, BGSA also reaches out to the greater university with events, tutoring programs and campus issue committees. In addition, the association helps recruit and retain minority students, faculty members and administrators. The BGSA is housed at the African-American Student Affairs building.

Camp Kesem

Camp Kesem is a student-run summer camp program for children who have or had a parent with cancer, where campers build self-esteem and gain support from peers facing similar challenges. Students plan camp, fundraise for and counselor an amazing one-week, sleepaway camp during the first week of summer.

Campus Greens/Activists

The Campus Greens/Activists seek to provide students with a politically liberal community, encourage students to engage in our democracy, and promote the ten key values of the Green Party: community-based economics, decentralization, ecological wisdom, feminism, future focus, grassroots democracy, non-violence, personal and global responsibility, respect for diversity, and social justice.

CHC Psychiatry Clinic

The CHC Psychiatry Clinic strives to 1) raise awareness among medical students about mental health needs among the patients at CHC, 2) provide an opportunity for medical students to work with Northwestern residents and physicians in providing community-based psychiatric care at CHC and 3) respond to an unmet need for psychiatric health services at CHC. CHC Psych is the only student group at Feinberg that seeks to provide psychiatric care in a vulnerable population.

China Care

China Care is interested in supporting and saving the lives of abandoned Chinese orphans. We raise money to sponsor adoptions and surgeries for orphans that need them and we run a playgroup and a mentorship program for adopted orphans in the greater Chicago area. The money we raise goes to individual children, children with names and faces.

Chinese Students Association

The Chinese Students Association is one of the first established Asian-American student groups at Northwestern. We aim to promote the awareness of Chinese culture while encouraging a social environment for students of all backgrounds. Our annual events include: Celebrasia, dumpling socials, formals, and hosting famous guest speakers.

College Democrats

The College Democrats seek to stimulate political thought and activity at Northwestern, promote interest in governmental affairs, and advance the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party of the United States, Illinois, and Evanston. We do so by bringing engaging speakers to campus, assisting members in finding political experiences, and hosting interesting quarterly events.

College Feminists

It is College Feminists' mission to address the intersection of gender, race, sexuality and culture by initiating positive change in all social spaces. We believe in equal rights between women and men on all social, political and economic levels. College Feminists is a group of students determined to make the campus and the community aware of the issues all women face.

College Republicans

College Republicans is Northwestern's student organization that supports the ideals of the Republican Party. We provide large-scale programming of conservative speakers, participate in campus forums and debates, and provide a social setting for conservative students.

For Members Only - The Black Student Alliance at Northwestern

For Members Only (FMO) serves as Northwestern University's premier Black Student Alliance. FMO serves to encourage political, social, cultural and intellectual unity and growth first and foremost within Northwestern University's Black community, but also within the broader Northwestern community as well. FMO is the representative and political voice of Northwestern University's Black undergraduate student body.

GLOBE is a group of students committed to increasing sensitivity, advancing awareness, and fostering discussion of issues of global importance. We educate and advocate through discussions with experts from academia, think tanks, NGOs, and the media. We also show provocative film screenings related to international issues.

The Institute for Student Business Education (ISBE) is the largest business organization on Northwestern campus with a reach of over 800 members. IEEE (Eye-triple-E) is a non-profit, technical professional association run by volunteers. It has 377,000 individual members in 150 countries. Technical areas within it range from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics, among others.

The McCormick Student Advisory Board is a diverse group of students dedicated to serving as representatives for the McCormick student body, identifying the needs of students, and working with the administration and their interests to unify the McCormick community and improve the McCormick experience.

Middle Eastern Students Association

MESA is Northwestern's organization for students interested in the Middle East and/or of Middle-Eastern culture. We have fun social events, raise cultural awareness, and represent Middle-Eastern cultural heritage to the rest of campus. Yalla, join!

Minorities in Pursuit of Law and Business

The Society of Minorities in Pursuit of Law and Business is the only law and business pre-professional organization geared specifically to the minority student's interests at Northwestern University. Since the re-establishment in 2001, the group has educated Northwestern's minority community on the opportunities available in the law and business fields, and provided necessary resources to help our members get ahead in the professional world. Over 100 members are in the Pursuit, and we are launching law and business related programs each quarter.

MOC & WOC: Commuter Organization

MOC & WOC (Men Off Campus & Women Off Campus) is Northwestern's only organization dedicated to commuters and off-campus students. Dating back to the 1940s, MOC & WOC's goal is to foster community and create an identity and sense of belonging for commuters at Northwestern. We host numerous social events, run the Commuter Orientation during New Student Week, and advocate for commuter issues.

Model United Nations

Northwestern Model UN promotes the education and appreciation of international affairs in the Northwestern community. In addition to on-campus programming, Model UN participates in collegiate level Model UN conferences across the nation. We also host an annual high school Model UN conference (NUMUN) every April. Whether you attend conferences, work on NUMUN staff, or do both, Model UN is a fun activity for those with an interest in international affairs. MOSAIC Communities

MOSAIC Communities, a.k.a. the Co-Op, is an off-campus house where 13 people live. Originally formed in 1998, the students are dedicated to consensus decision-making, environmental consciousness, and activism.

Nightcrawlers

Nightcrawlers is an organization that unites students, faculty, and staff in fighting against drinking and driving and dangerous binge drinking. Our goal is to raise the awareness of the students on campus who are at risk for such dangerous behaviors by promoting responsible drinking habits to those who choose to drink.

NORML-SSDP

Since its founding in 1970, NORML has provided a voice in the public policy debate for those Americans who oppose marijuana prohibition and favor an end to the practice of arresting marijuana smokers. A nonprofit public-interest advocacy group, NORML represents the interests of the tens of millions of Americans who smoke marijuana responsibly. As a campus chapter of NORML it is our goal to move public opinion, at Northwestern University and the surrounding communities, sufficiently to achieve the repeal of marijuana prohibition so that the responsible use of cannabis by adults is no longer subject to penalty. We also seek to represent to the best of our ability SSDP: Students for Sensible Drug Policy is an international grassroots network of students who are concerned about the impact drug abuse has on our communities, but who also know that the War on Drugs is failing our generation and our society. SSDP mobilizes and empowers young people to participate in the political process, pushing for sensible policies to achieve a safer and more just future, while fighting back against counterproductive Drug War policies, particularly those that directly harm students and youth. In a combined effort of these two organizations, we seek higher understanding our own political system and the consequences that arise from faulty legislation and its overall impact on our society.

Northwestern Journal of Race and Gender Criticism

We're a student-run publication. Our aim is to provide a forum for scholarly undergraduate work on issues related to race and gender. Run by Northwestern students, we publish quarterly and accept submissions from students at any college or university.

Northwestern Students for Life (NSFL) is non-partisan, not-for-profit student organization that serves to defend life and recognize the value of unborn children, to educate about the consequences of abortion, and to provide pregnancy support and encourage adoption.

Northwestern to Benefit Special Olympics

Special Olympics of Northwestern University is the largest and oldest student-run Special Olympics program in the country. We are going into our 32nd year with over 400 annual Northwestern volunteers. We strive to integrate individuals with developmental disabilities into our community by planning numerous social events.

Northwestern University Conference on Human Rights

The Northwestern University Conference on Human Rights (NUCHR) is the largest student organized and student attended conference focusing on human rights in the United States. NUCHR seeks to promote academic dialogue and mobilize student action to address international human rights issues. The model of this student-led conference brings together distinguished academics, activists, policy-makers, and students from around the globe on a particular human rights topic each year. The NUCHR student organizers select a national network of top student delegates to the conference through a rigorous and competitive application process. Each year, the conference has been attended by a wide range of stand-out student leaders representing an average of over 40 universities from across the United States.

Objectivist Club

Our club is devoted to the promotion of the philosophy of Ayn Rand described in such fiction works as Atlas Shrugged and Fountainhead, as well as her non-fiction works. We are also dedicated to general philosophical debate, and political/cultural discussions.

Operation Smile

Operation Smile is a non-profit, volunteer medical services organization providing reconstructive surgery and related health care to indigent children and young adults in developing countries around the world. Our student chapter (the first in Illinois) is aimed at spreading the word of this amazing philanthropic force and raising money to provide necessary surgeries.

Peace Project

Peace Project is a progressive, non-partisan student group that participates in social justice actions both on campus and in Chicago. The issues the group focuses on vary, depending its members' interests. Peace Project is a non-hierarchical organization based on cooperative structures. The group hosts a speaker event in the fall and the spring, and publishes The Protest magazine six times per year. Peace Project has a goal of mobilizing and educating to help foster a more peaceful campus and world, based not only on the absence of war but the presence of justice.

Rainbow Alliance

Our purpose is to create a safe space and encourage personal development for people of all genders and sexualities, perceived or otherwise on campus. To do this we outreach to promote awareness, understanding, and dialogue of issues surrounding gender and sexuality in the Northwestern community; work to provide a supportive and fun social environment that creates a sense of community; fight homophobia and heterosexism; provide student support and contribution to the LGBT Support Network; collaborate and support other Northwestern LGBT groups and organizations; and plan specific outreach programming for the ally community.

Rotaract Club of Northwestern University

Rotaract Club of Northwestern University is a Rotary-sponsored service club, one of thousands at universities and in communities around the world. SEED

Northwestern's Students for Ecological and Environmental Development (SEED) is the University's oldest and largest environmental student organization. Our mission is to pioneer, teach and model environmental stewardship so as to inspire our future leaders to act in ways that will sustain and protect our planet. In 2007-2008 SEED had a number of successes including improving the outdoor recycling program, advocating for stronger environmental academics, and assisting in the establishment of GREEN a dorm for environmental engagement that focuses on examined lifestyle, local service, and academics. Our other activities include large-scale programming, local environmental restoration work on the North Branch of the Chicago River, and representation in the University's Sustainability Working Group. Smoke-Free Chicago

We represent the Northwestern University chapter of Smoke-Free Chicago, a campaign to support the passage of a clean indoor air ordinance in the Chicago City Council to eliminate smoking in workplaces and public areas, including restaurants. We work under the guidance of the American Heart Association, and attend rallies and educate students to acheive a healthy, smoke-free Chicago.

Society of Women Engineers

Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a national organization dedicated to promoting interest and encouraging women to pursue the fields of science and engineering. SWE gives support, guidance and recognition to women engineers and other engineering students. Today, SWE is a nationally recognized professional, educational, non-profit, service organization.

South Asian Student Alliance (SASA)

SASA is Northwestern University's South Asian Student Alliance organization, devoted to sharing the rich and diverse cultures of all parts of South Asia.

Speech Team

Northwestern University's competitive speech team wants you! We participate in all collegiate individual events and Lincoln-Douglas debate. The team also runs the annual Tournament of Champions in Extemporaneous Speaking. Although we compete in Lincoln-Douglas debate, please note that we are a completely seperate entity from the NU Policy Debate Team.

STAND

STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition is a network of student groups dedicated to putting an end to genocide in Darfur and humanitarian crises around the world. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide.

Student Advisory Board (SAB) - SCS

The Student Advisory Board is dedicated to providing SCS students with the best possible support. We ensure that student concerns are addressed by serving as a link between the student body and the administration. Our goal is to build a cohesive community by encouraging open discussion, personal development, and active participation.

Student Blood Services (SBS)

SBS has a core board of 10-15 members who organize and staff 5 campus-wide blood drives and 2 bone marrow registry drives every year. As the premier student-run group of its kind in the Midwest, SBS strives to inform the campus about the worthy cause of blood donation and bone marrow registry. Students Helping to Organize Awareness of the Holocaust (SHOAH)

SHOAH's purpose is to educate the Northwestern community about events of and related to the Holocaust and to increase understanding and awareness of those events, as well as to inform the community about current issues and events of persecution, racism and genocide.

Swashbucklers Club

An organization open to anyone who has an inexplicable fascination with pirates. Aims to increase social awareness of piratery. We, of the Swashbucklers Club, wish to create a good rapport between Northwestern's pirate and non-pirate communities. We also lost our Captain and First Mate to the sea, and we need a crew of able seafarers to find them.

The Undergraduate Lecture Series on Race, Poverty, and Inequality organizes its quarterly series to raise social consciousness about race, poverty, and inequality in American society by exposing undergraduates to relevant research and the policy implications stemming from work within and outside the academy.

University Christian Ministry

UCM is a group of students who share with each other a common commitment to God and a spiritual life. We come from many backgrounds - like Methodist, Presbyterian, Baptist, Lutheran, Catholic or just no-name spirituality. But whatever your faith (or doubts), you are welcome at UCM.

Vox (Voices for Planned Parenthood)

Vox serves to educate students about threats to reproductive health and rights and mobilize them in support of reproductive freedom.
