Lambda Pi Eta

About LPH Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) has over 400 active chapters at four-year colleges and universities worldwide. LPH was founded in 1985 at the University of Arkansas. LPH became a part of the National Communication Association (NCA) in 1988, and the official honor society of the NCA in July 1995. LPH represents what Aristotle described in his book, Rhetoric, as the three ingredients of persuasion: Logos (Lambda) meaning logic, Pathos (Pi) relating to emotion, and Ethos (Eta) defined as character credibility and ethics. LPH Goals 1. Recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies 2. Stimulate interest in the field of communication 3. Promote and encourage professional development among communication majors 4. Provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange relationships between faculty and students 5. Establish and maintain closer relationships between faculty and students 6. Explore options for graduate education in communication studies National Recognition LPH is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies(ACHS) whose mission is to build a visibly cohesive community of national and international honor societies, individually and collaboratively exhibiting excellence in scholarship, service, programs, and governance. The Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), founded in 1925, is the nation's only certifying agency for college and university honor societies. ACHS sets standards for organizational excellence and for scholastic eligibility for the various categories of membership: general, specialized, leadership, freshman, and two-year honor societies. To assure member participation in governance, honor societies must be structured on a membership basis so that the interests of individual members are advanced. Members and society-at-large are protected by the standards of excellence of the Association of College Honor Societies. Not all organizations calling themselves "honor societies" subscribe to the high honors' standards of ACHS. Candidates for membership should assure that the honor society in question meets the rigorous standards of ACHS—both the business model and the scholastic eligibility criteria.

Zeta Tau Alpha

Zeta Tau Alpha was founded October 15, 1898, by nine women at the State Female Normal School (now Longwood University) in Farmville, Virginia. Only 14-15 years of age, these young women desired permanence to their friendships and hoped to perpetuate their sisterhood long after college. The Founders chose the formal name, the patron goddess Themis, and the badge. Today, ZTA is the third largest of the Panhellenic organizations, with 237 chapters across the country. Our chapter, Alpha Phi, is the 46th link in the chain of chapters. Our beautiful home is located in the sorority quads at 710 Emerson Street in Evanston, Illinois.
